Description

Innovation at Seaspan Shipyards is exploring, developing, and incorporating emerging technologies that set the pace and drive the evolution of Canada’s marine industry. Leveraging digital information collected about the vessel design, build, and operation underpins several technology initiatives building towards net-zero and decarbonization solutions, digital twins with adaptive and predictive performance models and equipment health monitoring for in-service support, and visualization systems that change how we see and engage with vessel information, data and models. This presentation provides an outline of our Innovation strategy and overview of digital twin initiatives developed with data analysis, model simulation and visualization systems to: • Address the challenge faced by the Canadian maritime industry in monitoring vessel propulsion system efficiencies and carbon emissions with the capacity to closely simulate the real-world characteristics of a vessel. • Combine 3D CAD models with onboard vessel sensor technologies to collect and report on equipment health supporting visualization, analysis and optimal scheduling of repair and maintenance work. • Establish an immersive visualization system integrating with 3D data and analytics and provide a responsive and collaborative visualization environment.  • Foster a collaborative framework to build independent and integrated solutions using digital twins, digital threads, integrated analytics and real-time sensing. Working across the industry, these capabilities transform how ships are built, constructed, operated, and maintained.
