Concurrent Technical Session 6C-A:  The Importance of Industry Involvement in the Development of Naval Architecture Students

Tia Button, Robert Caulfeild, Alexis Benjamin

The marine industry plays a vital role in the development of students pursuing their Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering (ONAE) degree at Memorial University. Its contribution to Memorial’s unique co-op program is the most evident example of this role, but organizations, including marine technical societies, are also involved in a variety of other areas, such as extracurricular teams and capstone projects. In this presentation, recent Memorial graduates will discuss the role of industry and professional societies in the ONAE program, the value of seeking out support from organizations within the marine industry, and how students have benefited from that involvement in their studies and early careers.
