Concurrent Technical Session 2B: Applying Systems Engineering, MBSE, and Machine Learning to Power Ships into The Future
Date & Time
Wednesday, April 23, 2025, 1:15 PM - 2:00 PM
Location Name
Salon Ville-Marie
Description

This session will focus on the principles and practical applications of Systems Engineering (SE), Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), and Machine Learning (ML). We will analyze a marine system case study to demonstrate how these approaches create a comprehensive and integrated framework for optimizing systems and their support solutions. Using the case study, we will explore how predictive algorithms and digital modeling frameworks interact with systems engineering principles to develop robust maintenance and repair strategies. We will also discuss ISO standards for system reliability and how they contribute to the development of a MBSE system architecture. Within this architecture, key attributes of systems and their components, including reliability and safety, will be examined. Additionally, we will address the impact of changes to systems and requirements and how these can affect attributes within a system-of-systems (SOS) context. Participants will gain actionable insights into:

- The application of SE, MBSE, and ML for marine systems

- Digital engineering approaches to enhance vessel reliability and safety

- Next-generation maintenance protocols that can reduce downtime and extend vessel lifespan

Join us in learning about the advantages of an integrated SE-MBSE-ML approach for product development, sustainment, and moving ships into the future.
