Paul Topping is Senior Director of Regulatory and Environmental Affairs at the Chamber of Marine Commerce located in Canada’s capital, Ottawa. He works with Canadian domestic shipowners on various issues from reducing air emissions to protecting waters and other regulatory matters. Prior to joining the Chamber in 2017, he worked for 28 years in marine-related positions in the Canadian government.
Paul has managed regulatory programs on environmental and other issues at both Environment Canada and Transport Canada. He has represented Canada at international meetings, notably at the International Maritime Organization’s Marine Environment Protection Committee, since 2000 to today. As well, he chaired the Standing Committee on the Environment of the national meeting of the Canadian Marine Advisory Council from 2007 to 2017.
Paul holds an Honours Bachelors of Science Degree in biology from the University of Waterloo and lives in the Ottawa valley region.
