In 2017 the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society proposed in their second Dry Eye Workshop (TFOS DEWS II) report, a systematic process to confirming the presence of dry eye disease and determining its subtype(s), based on the evidence-based definition, whilst also recommending a stepwise approach to its management. Since this time, over 9,000 papers have been published on the topic, so what are the challenges and likely changes for TFOS DEWS III. In the meantime, the 2023 Tear Film Ocular Surface (TFOS) Lifestyle report defined digital eye strain as “the development or exacerbation of recurrent ocular symptoms and / or signs related specifically to digital device screen viewing”. Digital eye strain encompasses a variety of visual and ocular symptoms that arise due to the prolonged use of digital devices. Ocular symptoms include blurred vision, diplopia, difficulty focusing at near, asthenopia, headache, tired and sore eyes, dryness, burning, tearing and irritation. This presentation will discuss our current knowledge on the topic and the link with dry eye disease.
