BUS PICKUP AT 9AM
Step back in time at this open-air museum depicting early Ukrainian settlement in east central Alberta from 1892-1930. Interpretive staff will share the rich and diverse Ukrainian-Canadian food heritage as preserved and presented at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village. This program will explore the everyday diet of early Ukrainian-Canadian settlers, looking at raising food, preparing food, and preserving food. Expert interpreters will share their own tips for preparing traditional dishes, and will share recipes, techniques, and tools from the past. In addition to a hands-on demonstration of Ukrainian dishes, you will be treated to a tour of select buildings in the historical village, where the story of food and cooking will continue to unfold in our unique living history environment. A lunch of delicious Ukrainian cuisine will fuel your tour, and let you share in the Ukrainian-Canadian culinary tradition!
We will then cap off the tour with visits to two innovative, local spirit makers:
- The Fort Distillery to explore delicious, small batch spirits with a twist. All of their products have at least one uncommon ingredient in their recipe - from Haskap berries, to toasted malt barley, you will be pleasantly surprised with each sip.
- Hawke Prohibition Distillery prides themselves on crafting premium spirits using their one-of-a-kind continuous distillation process. They use organic and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible and there are no additives, essences, preservatives or artificial colours in any of their spirits.
