Dr. Nitin Padmanabhan is a senior research engineer specializing in Transmission Operations and Planning at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) Canada. His work at EPRI focuses on integrating emerging technologies into operations and designing and operating wholesale electricity markets. Dr. Nitin provides technical support for bulk power system operation and planning simulation, including production cost modeling, hybrid and standalone storage, distributed energy resources (DER) integration, and developing advanced software tools for the power system industry. He collaborates with ISOs and RTOs in the United States and Canada to facilitate and conduct R&D that supports the evolution of these regions.

Before joining EPRI, Dr. Nitin worked as an Advisor for Market Development at the IESO and as a Senior Consultant at NS Consulting, Canada. He earned his PhD from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and his Master of Technology (M.Tech) and Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) from India.

Dr. Nitin has received several awards and fellowships, including the 2025 IEEE Kitchener Waterloo Section PES Chapter Outstanding Engineer Award, IEEE President Appreciation for his outstanding volunteer services in 2023, the 2018 Energy Council of Canada Energy Policy Research Fellowship, the 2017 University of Waterloo Faculty of Engineering Award, and the Best Teaching Assistant Award. He has been an active volunteer with IEEE for 21 years and currently serves as the Chair of the IEEE Kitchener-Waterloo Section PES Chapter in Canada.
