JOHN ROWINSKI is Kanyen’kehà:ka and a member of Tyendinaga First Nation. He obtained his B.A. (Honours) from Queen’s University, and later his LL.B. from Queen’s as well. John opened a law office in Brooklin, Ontario in April 2008 after practicing for several years in downtown Toronto. In 2016, John renamed his practice Two Row Law, and moved it to an office on Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation. After merging Two Row Law with Fogler, Rubinoff LLP in 2019, John began a new career as CEO of Noozhoo Nokiiyan LP in June 2020. Throughout his legal career, John advised and acted on behalf of First Nations, Indigenous communities, corporations and related organizations in dispute resolution and negotiation with all levels and delegates of the Crown and third parties; negotiated and drafted contracts, policies and procedures for First Nations; advised on for-profit and non-profit corporate issues and matters of internal governance; and assisted in First Nation trust formation and governance. In addition to his work with Indigenous Peoples, John’s practice encompassed a broad range of professional liability, commercial and civil litigation, as well as business advice. John served for 3 years as Chair of the Ontario Bar Association’s Aboriginal Law Section, was a member of the Canadian Bar Association’s National Aboriginal Law Section Executive for 3 years, has served and continues to serve as a director and/or officer of numerous boards and committees, and is a frequent speaker at law schools, conferences and workshops. He has been a moot team co-coach for Queen’s Law since 2015. John was selected by his peers multiple times to be included in the annual “The Best Lawyers in Canada” in the practice of Aboriginal Law and the Lexpert Legal directory for Indigenous Law. Noozhoo Nokiiyan LP manages the investments and for-profit enterprises of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, which include Sky Canoe Inc. (remotely piloted aircraft for cargo delivery), Voyageur Services Limited (construction), energy & infrastructure holdings, hospitality & tourism, retail, and commercial real estate. John is proud to lead an organization whose purpose is to engage in, and develop, wealth creation opportunities for MSIFN to support the community’s access to sustainable sources of revenue for the next seven generations and beyond.
