John Mikkelsen is a Director in the Power & Energy Solutions team at TC Energy. His decades-long career in power engineering and business development began as project engineer on two of the original non-utility generation projects in 1989. After two years in the Czech Republic in the mid-nineties, John returned to Canada and held development engineering roles at Calpine, TransAlta and Northland Power before joining TC Energy (then TransCanada) in 2003.

Based in TC Energy’s Toronto office, John has been Development Project Manager on the TransCanada Halton Hills Generating Station and Napanee Generating Station, and Development Engineering Manager on Coolidge Generating Station in Arizona. Since 2016, John has been leading development of TC’s important Ontario Pumped Storage Project in Meaford, Ontario.

An avid cyclist, John has recruited colleagues, friends and family to join him each of the past six years to ride, volunteer and/or donate to Wounded Warriors Canada’s Ride for Mental Health, which brings awareness to the unique mental health needs of veterans, first responders and their families.

John holds an M.A.Sc. and B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario.
