Heather Norton has 7 years of professional experience in software engineering, metocean risk management, and sustainability. During her time in industry, she worked on several research and development projects focused on the optimisation of offshore wind farms and climate change adaptation for the ports and harbours industry. In addition, she has completed a B.Sc.Eng. in Engineering Physics at Queen’s University and an M.Phil. in Engineering for Sustainable Development at the University of Cambridge. Heather’s PhD thesis, within the Institute for Integrated Energy Systems at the University of Victoria (IESVic), focuses on system engineering and optimization for a research project referred to as Solid Carbon; this project investigates offshore carbon dioxide capture using offshore wind power and sequestration in ocean basalt.
