Description

Vard Marine would like to present the design of a 27.5-meter liquid hydrogen buoy tender designed for the Great Lakes. Emphasis will be on some of the key outcomes from the risk assessment workshop and the design studies. The vessel features two azimuthing thrusters, hydrogen-electric power, a battery bank, and accommodation for five crew members. The presentation covers methodology, including conceptual design, machinery layout, and safety measures. Risks identified—fire, explosion, bunkering, crewing, and training—are addressed, affirming the feasibility of the liquid hydrogen, battery-driven tender. Despite challenges such as limited range and operational considerations, this exercise has indicated that it is the concept is feasible and sets the stage for future deployment.
