Shawn Balding will review how the 2021 Marilyn Bell I electrification project has lived up to expectations.
As the first Canadian ferry conversion from diesel to zero-emission operation, this project has attracted attention from the entire North American marine industry in regard to its status as a bell-weather for the viability of future maritime electrification efforts.
The presentation will cover whether it has saved PortsToronto money, reduced CO2 emissions, its effect on reliability and operational usability as well as other key data of interest to attending ferry owners, operators, builders and naval architects.
A particular focus will be lessons learned from this transformative effort that will help the marine community more effectively analyze its options as vessel electrification projects and on shore charging systems are evaluated for their viability.
