Ryan Nicoll is the co-founder and CTO of the ocean engineering consultancy and software company DSA Ocean. Since co-founding DSA Ocean in 2006, Ryan has worked with a talented and diverse team to develop new software technologies that help understand the dynamics of and risk to floating systems in wind, waves, and currents in the ocean. Before co-founding DSA Ocean in 2006, Ryan graduated from the University of Victoria with a Masters degree in mechanical engineering. During his time at university, Ryan studied subsea robotics and this is where he developed a passion for numerical modelling and simulation-based design and analysis. The software technology developed in DSA Ocean’s ProteusDS are used in marine industries including oceanography, ocean technology, marine renewables, defense, fisheries, and aquaculture with users worldwide. Ryan is responsible for all learning materials related to ProteusDS and has trained hundreds of designers, naval architects, and engineers worldwide in mooring design and ship motion prediction applications.
