Paul is the current President of the Council of Marine Carriers, a position he assumed in February 2022 after many years working in the tug sector of the Marine industry. Paul’s career has spanned over 40 years in the domestic and international maritime industry both at sea and onshore in operations support and senior management roles,
He began his seagoing profession as a teenager on family-owned fish boats working in the BC commercial salmon industry but transitioned to the tugs after completing a Marine Engineering Apprenticeship at the Pacific Marine Training Institute (now BCIT). Coming ashore in the mid 1990’s, Paul shoreside experience includes time managing both local and international tug operations, shipbuilding projects, and specialized heavy lift transports worldwide. Paul has held positions in Dispatch, Vessel Operations, Chartering, New build construction, and Executive Management.
During his career, Paul has gained a strong understanding of what to do and what not to do in marine operations, marine engineering, safety and incident Investigation, training, labor relations, and safety management systems.
In his current Role, Paul has taken on a keen interest in workforce recruitment and retention and spends many hours working with industry partners to promote the industry in general and the great job and career opportunities to youth.
