Manickam “Nicks” Kumaravel

Manickam “Nicks” Kumaravel is based at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. At UTHealth, he is an Assistant Vice President, Professor of Radiology and Orthopedics, and Vice Chair of Diagnostic Radiology. He holds the esteemed Memorial Hermann Chair. Nicks has been recognized as an Honored Fellow for his contributions to the American Society of Emergency Radiology (ASER).
His clinical training includes extensive clinical training, including a residency in Surgical specialties focusing on Orthopedics and Trauma with surgical board certifications from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Glasgow, United Kingdom. He is Specialty board-certified in Radiology in the United Kingdom and the European Union and certified by the American Board of Radiology.
Nicks is a team doctor with the National Football League (NFL) Texans. He also cares for the National Basketball Association (NBA) Rockets and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tennis tournaments.
Nicks is a keen educator interested in radiology education for high school and medical school students, residents, fellows, and practicing radiologists in the United States as part of international outreach programs and has lectured in many national and international conferences and teaching programs. His research interests include traumatic hip injuries, the role of biologics in elite athlete injuries, imaging of cartilage, and the use of UTE (Ultrashort TE) sequences to assess ligament healing.
He is an avid cyclist and hiker.
