Moderators: Linda Probyn & Natalia Gorelik

The session will consist of four lectures offering a diverse overview of musculoskeletal topics, including benign bone lesions, axial spondyloarthritis, rotator cuff pathology, and meniscal tears.

At the end of this session, delegates will be able to:

  • Recognize the classic imaging features of benign “do not touch” bone lesions across different imaging modalities and determine when further imaging work-up is warranted to ensure accurate diagnosis and avoid unnecessary intervention.
  • Recognize the imaging patterns that occur at different stages of inflammatory sacroiliitis and apply to their own clinical practice the key principles of the internationally recommended MRI acquisition protocol for inflammatory sacroiliitis.
  • Recognize the normal ultrasound appearance of the rotator cuff and common pathological lesions and identify pitfalls in cuff tear diagnosis.
  • Classify meniscal tears on MRI using recognized imaging criteria and apply this knowledge to improve clinical decision-making in musculoskeletal imaging.

Don't Touch Lesions
Laura Fitzpatrick

This presentation will review the classic imaging features of common benign “do not touch” bone lesions across radiography, CT, and MRI. Emphasis will be placed on identifying hallmark characteristics that allow confident diagnosis, differentiating these lesions from more aggressive pathology, and recognizing when additional imaging or follow-up is appropriate.

Sacroiliac Joint Imaging
Robert Lambert

In this lecture, pitfalls in MRI interpretation of the sacroiliac joints will be reviewed, including the natural history of inflammatory sacroiliitis, and recently published international guidelines for radiology of the SI joints. Delegates will learn how to recognize the imaging patterns that occur at different stages of inflammatory sacroiliitis and how to apply the key principles of the internationally recommended MRI acquisition protocol for inflammatory sacroiliitis to their own clinical practice.

COI: Dr. Robert Lambert has received financial payments as a consultant for CARE Arthritis, Image Analysis Group, and AbbVie.

Imaging of Rotator Cuff Tears
Viviane Khoury

This presentation will discuss ultrasound imaging of the rotator cuff, emphasizing normal appearance and common pathological lesions, and including pitfalls in cuff tear diagnosis.

COI: Dr. Viviane Khoury serves as a Board Member (Councillor) for the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).

Imaging of Meniscal Tears
Hema Choudur

This presentation will review the imaging appearance of meniscal tears, focusing on MRI techniques, tear classification, and common diagnostic pitfalls in routine practice.
