Dr. Bitton completed her Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo (1988) in Canada, followed by a Master’s in Physiological Optics (1994) from the Université de Montréal in the area of tear film clinical physiology and its relevance in patients exhibiting dry eye. Dr. Bitton presently holds the rank of full professor, and is the Director of the Externship Program at the School of Optometry at the Université de Montréal. She is a member of several national and international professional organizations. Her areas of interest are in the evaluation of the tear film, dry eye and contact lens wear. In 2012 she inaugurated and became the Director of the Dry Eye Clinic at the school, a first in an optometry school in North America. In 2015, Dr. Bitton was invited by the Tear Film Ocular Society (TFOS) to participate in the TFOS DEWSII, a global initiate to redefine dry eye. She represents this organization as one of the ambassadors for Canada and has recently been invited to join their next initiative entitled: ‘A Lifestyle Epidemic: Ocular Surface Disease’. In 2019 Dr. Bitton received a certificate on the Management of Dry Eye from the British Contact Lens Association.

Etty Bitton est diplômée de l’École d'optométrie de l’Université de Waterloo (OD - 1988) au Canada. Elle poursuit ses études à l’École d'optométrie de l’Université de Montréal complétant, en 1994, une maîtrise en optique physiologique axée sur la physiologie du film lacrymal. Dre Bitton est professeure titulaire et Directrice des stages externes à l’École d'optométrie de l’Université de Montréal. Elle est membre de plusieurs organismes professionnels nationaux et internationaux. Ses champs d’intérêts sont l’évaluation du film lacrymal, la sécheresse oculaire et le port de lentilles cornéennes. En 2012 elle inaugure et devient la Directrice de la clinique de Sécheresse oculaire à l’École d'optométrie, Université de Montréal, une première dans une école d’optométrie en Amérique du nord. En 2015 elle a été invitée par le Tear Film Ocular Society (TFOS) afin de participer au TFOSDEWSII, une initiative mondiale afin de redéfinir la sécheresse oculaire. Elle représente à ce jour l’organisme à titre d’ambassadrice pour le Canada et a récemment été invitée à participer à leur nouvelle initiative intitulée « A Lifestyle Epidemic: Ocular Surface Disease ». Plus dernièrement (2019), Dre Bitton a reçu un certificat en gestion de sécheresse du British Contact Lens Association.
